K day 2010

In the morning we went to fly kites with the kids' Great Uncle Brett.

Brett sews these himself. See how small his Dough Boy kite looks in this picture?

It's really very big!

E and T kicked around a soccer ball with little cousin E.

We had lunch with a big group of family members, including Aunt Karen.

We went to see The Karate Kid. Everyone loved it—E especially enjoyed the kung fu.

At the mall, E saw some Hello Kitty shirts.

dessert = Hershey's Kisses

bedtime story = The Princess and the Kiss by Jennie Bishop
(T & E saw king, keep, kindness, and kingdom)

Then everyone got a goodnight kiss from Mom :)

Y day 2010

To make scrambled eggs for breakfast, T cracked the eggs and broke the yolks.

E wore her yellow sundress and ate yogurt.

In the afternoon, we went swimming at the YMCA.

Of course, we sang the song, too.

Later we went to Grandma & Grandpa's house to see the youngest M cousins, who were visiting from out of town.

When we got home, we played with yo-yos.

G day 2010

(S made biscuits & gravy for breakfast, but the kids only ate the b and not the g. Great.)

In the morning we went to the Linnaeus Teaching Gardens at Woodward Park. First we signed the guest book,

then we explored the grounds.

They even have a greenhouse. T & E saw a gate.

Look at all that green grass:

Our picnic at the park included sandwiches, Goldfish crackers, green grapes, & Gatorade.

Next we drove by the historic downtown Greenwood district on our way to Gilcrease Museum. (There we saw another ornate gate at the parking lot entrance.)

Here's G looking at a giant photograph of Geronimo holding a gun.

(As I took this picture, the security guard told me there are no cameras allowed in the museum. Oops.)

Back at home, J & T explored the learning globe in their room.

Later T & E prepared the green beans for dinner. This time most of the family ate gravy (not leftover from breakfast!) with their meatballs.

As the sun set, the kids played with glow sticks.

bedtime story = How Groundhog's Garden Grew by Lynne Cherry

S & E sang "God is So Good" as E snuggled into bed. G'night!

O day 2010

Breakfast options included oatmeal and orange juice.

E saw a big Oklahoma flag as we crossed over the Arkansas River on I-44. The kids spent the morning outside in our friends' pool while S worked at the office.

J & E posed with a ceramic owl that their late great-grandmother made.

At the Oklahoma Aquarium we watched the otter feeding and saw a real, live octopus.

The boys were glad the fish food stand was open so they could feed stingrays in the Oceans room.

We ate dinner at Joe Momma's pizza downtown, where we saw a big fire in their brick oven. E spotted two O's on their sign as we left.

Next we walked to the Drillers game at OneOk field. Look, an oil derrick!

As we walked to the outfield playground, T & E spotted another Oklahoma flag

and "Oily's Outpost",

During the 7th inning stretch, we sang "Oklahoma!" Then E showed enthusiasm for her favorite part of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame": "One... Two... Three strikes, you're OUT!"

When we got home, T & E ate mandarin oranges.

J day 2010

T played a doubles tennis tournament in the morning, and on the way home he thought of a J word: "I did a good job!"

We made some Jello.

Trying on school clothes at JC Penney, G demonstrated his new-pants jiggle.

lunch = Arnold's, with a real juke box

In the car we listened to E's favorite, Praise Baby "Shine, Jesus, Shine".

Later we heard the Brian Setzer Orchestra "Jump Jive an' Wail" and Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock".

In the evening we went to a pool party and shared some snacks: Junior Mints and Jelly Belly Jelly Beans (the birthday girl's favorite). The kids drank juice boxes.

The boys jumped in:

E did some jumping jacks ("and one and two and three and four and...")

The boys wanted to watch Jimmy Neutron and Justice League when we got home, but it was just too late.

p.s. We realized a few letter-days later that we forgot to play Jenga on J day.

H day 2010

This day was filled with hugs :)

In the morning, E helped S hang some laundry out on the line. She held a hibiscus bloom.

J likes to read Harry Potter.

In the car we heard "Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer. ("Stop! Hammer time.") We also saw a guy on a motorcycle with a green mohawk on his helmet.

lunch = Happy Meals

T saw Marvel Heroes on the box.

Next we visited the Tulsa Historical Society

T noticed a sign: "Lawson Exhibit Hall". E spotted a couple of toy horses, and we learned about the only Medal of Honor to be awarded to a Tulsan.

The boys got their hair cut by Mr. Will at Kuts for Kids.

How handsome :)

Look—huge hands!

In Praise Baby "God of Wonders" we heard H words holy, heaven, and hallelujah.

G & J played more of their new Lego Harry Potter game. T & E tried to play the harmonica.

At bedtime, G started reading the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.

T read "Hop on Pop" to E and her little plush Hornsby (the Drillers mascot).
